Lady Vera Moray thanked the heavens for the day she took up philanthropy. It was the natural order of things. If one gave something freely to the truly grateful, one always received something in return, one way or another.
It started when she had gone with her late husband to the Pandyssian Continent to build wells and accurately portray the natives’ culture. In exchange, the native women (far more civilized than believed on the Isles) introduced her to their rich almonds. After her husband passed away, she sponsored an innovative orphanage in Tyvia, where the children complained to her about the sardines th

The Eye of the Crow - TWO
Within the space of a few steps, the house behind me had vanished into the sheeting rain. A sly wind crept up behind me, only to reverse itself suddenly and come clawing at the hem of my overcoat. I was forced to raise my arm to shield my eyes from the stinging drops, or else be blinded.
The house stood at the end of what was, in ordinary weather, a pleasant boulevard, divided up by tidy privet hedges and iron fences, awash with hydrangea and climbing rose. The other houses were quite as nice as the one I had left, their inhabitants altogether much too respectable to let even a smudge of light reach the street at that hour. And not a smudge

Chapter 4: Unmasked
John was watching the news when his flat mate burst into the living room.
“John we need to go undercover!” Sherlock said excitedly as he tossed a piece of paper to him.
John picked it up and read the invitation, “A masquerade ball? Are you serious?”
“Yes, the host has had two murders in his house.”
“Ummm,” John mumbled rubbing his neck where there were several faint scars. Sherlock was looking at him expectantly and John felt his argument die in his throat. He wanted to keep Sherlock from finding out he was a vampire, so telling him he could not go to a party because he w

Chapter 2: Detective Inspector Lycanthrope
John Watson was in a cab on his way to 221b clutching hand warmers. Even though he had blood flow and a pumping heart he was always deathly cold. The cab pulled up to the curb and he stepped out and walked to the door. Just as he was about to knock on the door he heard the detective’s voice behind him.
“Ah, Mr. Holmes.” He said turning and holding out a hopefully warm hand.
“Sherlock, please.” requested the other man shaking it.
Too old fashioned. John sighed and followed him into the house.
John was surprised by how much Sherlock loved murder. Humans usually feared

Chapter 1: A Not So Sweet Dream
John Watson heard gunfire and twitched in his sleep. A voice was calling his name. “John! We have a man down!” He turned towards it peering through the dusty air and felt some one tackle him. Dazed, John tried to make sense of what was happening. When his eyes got back into focus he saw a man above him raising a rough cut wooden stake.
“Perkins, what the hell are you doing?” Another soldier shouted.
The man on top of John replied, “Back up, he is a monster. I am doing the whole damn squad a favor.”
John wriggled and hissed, his arms trapped to his sides between the man

No Cage for a Crow - One
With the benefit of hindsight, I am forced to admit that the howling heart of a winter storm might not have been the most well-considered moment to run away from home. Of course, adolescents have never been renowned for their unerring wisdom, and I was no exception. All I knew then, the one thought running continuously through my mind as I belted on my dressing gown, stuffed my feet into layers upon layers of stockings and then into my brother’s over-sized boots, and threw a heavy woollen coat over all of it, was that I had to get out. It was all my fault, I had ruined everything, and the only thing left was to run.
And so I ran.
I ha

The Eye of the Crow - Foreword
Actually telling this story presents some unusual difficulties, primarily because it is not mine. I want to make that clear: the most I've had to do with this work is a bit of editing, a bit of cleanup. Some of the words are mine, but most are not, and I have absolutely nothing to do with the ideas.
The bizarre truth is that the permission I have received to make this all public is conditional, and the condition is secrecy. I am not allowed to describe how this story came into my hands. I am not allowed to dig into its origins, and I have been assured that the real writer, whoever that may be, would find out very quickly if I ever began to m
